Sylvie Berthelot-Dilk holds a baccalaureate in Languages and Literature and a trilingual Higher Technician Certificate (BTS)-both from the Académie d’Orléans-Tours (France)-as well as a master’s degree in Canadian studies (literature stream) focusing on immigrant identity, and a master’s degree in education focusing on the learning strategies of first-year university students at the Université de Saint-Boniface. Her doctoral thesis examines the perceptions and experiences of both experienced and novice teachers in Manitoba’s Francophone and immersion schools regarding transgender and gender-diverse students and explores how to foster professional and personal reflection on social justice within initial teacher education. She believes that humility and empathy required of education professionals-combined with anti-oppressive education-are qualities that can make a real difference in creating a better world.
